What Is a Vapour Path?

A vapour path, also called an air or aerosol pathway, is the route gases and particles take through a device.

Following the route

A simplified route may begin at an air inlet, pass through a heated region, continue along a channel and end at an outlet. Actual designs include branches, valves or removable tubing. The word path does not imply that all air passes through a single easily visible tube.

Why seals and channels matter

A seal can limit unintended leakage or mixing. A screen can retain some solids without being an engineered fine-particle filter. Airflow resistance depends on length, bends, channel size and obstructions. A path that appears clean from the outside may still have residue in less visible sections.

How to read an air-path claim

“Isolated air path” and similar expressions should be defined by the manufacturer: isolated from which components, in which operating condition, and verified by what test? Avoid interpreting marketing phrases as evidence of medical suitability or exposure safety. For maintenance, consult the assembly drawing and approved cleaning method.

A practical example

Two devices have the same mouthpiece design, but one routes air around a heater enclosure while the other sends air through a different internal chamber. The outer appearance alone reveals little about the actual pathway.

Three points to remember

  • Air inlet
  • Heated region / channel
  • Outlet / mouthpiece

Questions people often ask

Is an air path the same as a filter?

No. A path conveys flow; filters have separate specified functions.

Does an isolated path guarantee safe output?

No. Composition and safety require evidence beyond pathway marketing.
