Device dimensions and weight describe physical properties, while usability and handling depend on the complete design.
Reading three-dimensional measurements
Specifications may list height, width and depth, commonly in millimetres in Australian publications. Manufacturers may describe orientation differently, so compare diagrams instead of relying only on an order of numbers. External dimensions may exclude protruding mouthpieces, chargers, cables or optional fittings.
Weight requires context
A listed weight may refer to the empty body, a unit with its installed battery, or a complete kit. Compare like with like. A heavier device is not automatically tougher; durability also depends on construction, sealing, fasteners, heat management and maintenance.
Materials and ergonomics
Rounded cases, textured surfaces and button placement can influence how a device is handled. Heat can also make a handle or outlet unsuitable to touch even when dimensions are compact. Look for the model manual’s requirements for clearance, placement and hot components rather than inferring safety from shape.
A practical example
Two models both advertise 150 mm length, but one measurement includes the mouthpiece and the other excludes it. A dimension diagram and stated weight condition reveal more than the headline number.
Three points to remember
- Height × width × depth
- Gross/packaging weight differs from device weight
- Dimensions do not measure heat safety
Questions people often ask
Does the larger unit always have a bigger chamber?
No. Internal volume and layout differ.
Can product photographs prove dimensions?
No. Scale and camera perspective can be misleading.
